Many children who have had these experiences exhibit varied levels of trauma specific behaviors.
Barbara Oehlberg, sought-after Ohio thinker, speaker and teacher is available to present to your staff or team. Ms. Oehlberg is a trauma specialist who has written about and studied the effects of trauma on children. Oehlberg is a retired Family and Child Development Specialist from the Cleveland City Schools in Ohio. She is a dedicated child advocate who recently completed her certification as a Child Trauma Consultant through the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children. She is a frequent national workshop presenter and author of Making It Better: Activities for Children Living in a Stressful World.
In her presentation's she addresses the sources of trauma as well as bullying and coping mechanisms for parents and professionals. Best practices for creating a bully-free environment in your district or facility are her specialty. In light of the dramatic increase in the number of children who are bringing experiences of loss and trauma into school, and research that indicates that such experiences can cause altered brain development and impair problem-solving skills when in a state of anxiety; her presentations also focus on the causes of aggressive behaviors. The educational implications, the signs of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), neurobiological changes, issues and experiences that compound loss, separation, and grief, and the healing process for children will be reviewed.
A limited number of these workshops will be offered to Ohio schools at no charge. Funding of workshops is provided for by United Services for Effective Parenting (USEP) -OHIO. They will be allocated on a first-request basis.
